When Tools Meet Curiosity

Some objects exist to solve problems.
Others exist to spark ideas.

FixBoy was born from the belief that the most interesting tools can do both.

In our studio, we often found ourselves surrounded by small everyday objects. A screwdriver used to tighten a loose hinge. A pen used to sketch a quick idea. Something in the hand to spin or slide while thinking through a difficult problem. None of these objects were remarkable on their own, yet each played a quiet role in the rhythm of creative work.

One day a simple question appeared in conversation: could these small moments be brought together inside a single object?

Not as a novelty, but as a thoughtful piece of design. Something compact enough to carry every day, yet versatile enough to move naturally between repair, creativity, and play.

That question became the beginning of FixBoy.

A Tool for Hands That Like to Think

Many tools are designed for a single purpose. They perform one task well and then return to the toolbox. But the hands of curious people rarely stay still. They repair something, adjust something, take something apart, sketch a quick idea, and sometimes simply move while the mind searches for the next thought.

FixBoy was designed for that kind of hand.

At its core is a compact screwdriver system that stores essential bits in a rotating magnetic chamber. The mechanism was inspired by the mechanical precision of a revolver cylinder. Each rotation reveals the next tool with a deliberate click, turning simple storage into an experience that feels both efficient and satisfying.

Hidden inside the body is a retractable extension rod that allows the screwdriver to reach deeper spaces when needed. With a small push the tool shifts from everyday repair mode to something capable of tackling tighter and more complicated assemblies.

Yet FixBoy was never meant to be only a screwdriver.

From Repair to Creation

Ideas rarely arrive on schedule. They appear while adjusting a loose screw, while waiting, or while absentmindedly turning something in the hand. For that reason we wanted FixBoy to move effortlessly from fixing to creating.

An optional Eternal Pen module transforms the tool into a writing instrument. Inspired by the ancient technique of metalpoint drawing, the tip writes by leaving microscopic metal traces on paper. The result resembles the gentle texture of pencil lines while lasting far longer than traditional graphite.

It means that a tool used to repair something can, seconds later, become the instrument used to capture a new idea.

FixBoy becomes a bridge between making and thinking.

A Moment for the Mind

During the design process we noticed something interesting. When people held early prototypes, they often began to spin or slide the mechanism without thinking. The small movements seemed to help them concentrate.

Rather than removing this behavior, we decided to embrace it.

FixBoy includes two tactile features designed purely for the hand. A rotating disc with twelve crisp positions provides rhythmic mechanical feedback with every turn. A bolt inspired slider snaps forward and returns with a satisfying motion that can be repeated endlessly.

These small interactions serve no mechanical purpose, yet they offer something equally valuable. A brief reset for the mind when attention begins to drift.

Built to Stay Close

A tool designed for everyday creativity must be ready whenever the moment appears. FixBoy was therefore shaped to live easily alongside the small objects people already carry. Roughly the size of a thumb, it fits naturally on a keychain, in a pocket, or attached to a lanyard.

Its body is machined from GR5 titanium, a material known for its strength, lightness, and resistance to corrosion. The same qualities that make it valuable in aerospace engineering also make it perfect for a tool meant to travel everywhere.

The design is compact, resilient, and quietly mechanical. Something that feels equally comfortable in a workshop, a studio, or a pocket during an ordinary day.

A Small Object with Many Possibilities

FixBoy began as an exploration of how many small experiences could live inside one tool. Repairing something. Capturing an idea. Resetting the mind with a simple movement of the hand.

Each function is modest on its own. Together they form a small ecosystem of utility and curiosity.

In the end, FixBoy is not defined by any single feature. It is defined by the possibility of moving easily between them.

A screwdriver when something needs fixing.
A pen when an idea appears.
A small mechanical companion when the mind needs a moment to think.

Sometimes the most interesting tools are not the largest or the most complex.

They are simply the ones that stay with you.
